Using a hammock in cold weather is out of the question. A simple sleeping pad will provide more insulation and keep you warmer overall.

Hahaha you looked like a hunchback in the morning. Those thermo pads work well but an underquilt would be much better. you can loose a lot of heat by laying on the ground just as much as you loose by air flow under the hammock. an underquilt doesnt compress under your body weight as it hangs under the hammock so keeps the warmth locked in. This would make it much warmer than being on the floor. I camp out both as a ground dweller and a swinger (hammocker) but prefer the hammock. thanks.

You forgot you are in your backyard.
No need to maintain that fire in the morning.

Hot Rocks Under The Hammock...Nice
I was reading through your comments and couldn't find what type of tarp you were using. I was looking to see if it was a specific type that was reflective for the heat or just a traditional tarp.
