Secret Life of Cats - Part 2 of 3

Feared in the witching hour, sacred and revered in the ancient halls of Egyptian folklore, and an entrée for the Australian aboriginal, this darn cat has made an impact on the precarious order that we call nature. Written, directed, and narrated by filmmaker Allison Argo, this documentary from National Geographic poses some valid questions concerning the domestic kitty and its role in the wild. A "tomcat" with an overdeveloped urge for mating, and a renegade tabby that might be responsible for a substantial decline in wildlife, keep the viewer chasing the tail of the mysterious feline and the secrets it keeps.

I have to admit I'm not too happy with this depiction of cats. I've had cats all my life and I know that there's more to the relationship than grubbing for food or the mere sensuality of petting. I've had cats stay with me when I was sick, come up and pat my face when I was unhappy. They're not dogs (I love dogs), but their attachment is clean and true. Maybe I love cats because they love me as free agents. The film does them a disservice.
