I went riding today with Charles at Santiago Oaks. When we came to a ridgeline by the Outdoor Education Center in Irvine Park, I heard something in the bushes. I looked around and didn't see anything. Then I heard something again and as I turned, something was running in my direction. All I saw was the back of whatever it was peaking above the bushes as it came to me. Then it stopped and I didn't see anything after that. I happened to be running my helmet cam today and this is what it caught. Not sure what animal it was and the video is very blurry but it game me a scare. I don't think it was a deer because I didn't see it's head bobbing up and down as it ran. My guess was a coyote, bobcat, or mountain lion. Gotta love nature! :)
It does resemble a small deer with its ears..forward..but the roundness of the ears is what's difficult to place..and most times a deer is a dead give-away when its tail flashes..I'm thinking deer(small)..but really can't tell from the video--the BEST Scene is at 19-seconds/

That's cool. It's really hard to tell though because of the blurriness. My opinion is that it could be a bob. It looks smaller than a mountain lion, but with the vid it's hard to tell sizes too. I've often wondered when I'm out in the woods riding or just hiking how many animals I have missed that are behind some brush or a log or something. Really cool vid. Thanks for posting.
