Stand up against big telecom price-gouging here: http://stopthemeter.ca

Monday, July 11, marked the beginning of a two-week-long CRTC hearing on Internet metering. This is the result of Canadians signing our online petition, their engagement with Internet openness and affordability issues, and their ongoing efforts to spread the word.

Phone and cable companies want to put a pay meter on your Internet use.

We're looking at a future where big telecom companies will charge per byte for Internet use, the way they do with smart phones. If we allow this to happen Canadians will have no choice but to pay MUCH more for less Internet. Big phone and cable companies are obviously trying to gouge Canadians, control the Internet market, and ensure that we continue to subscribe to their television services.

This will crush innovative services, Canada's digital competitiveness, social progress, and your wallet.

Take a stand against price gouging by big phone and cable companies at http://www.StopTheMeter.ca

  • FUCK YOU BELL. YOU PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE COCKSUCKERS TREAT ME LIKE SHIT BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO COMPETITION. EAT SHIT. FUCK YOU. I HATE YOU BELL, DIE. DIE. DIE

  • Nice to give the UBB Scandal some cover, CBC, but unfortunately, once again, you have no clue what it's all about. It's not about 'what the internet should cost' but rather 'how much profiteering (read: 1000% markup or 10,000%?) consumers are willing to tolerate from the telecom giants and how much noise consumers will have to make so that the CRTC itself finally understands the issue and executes its fundamental mandate, to protect ALL CANADIANS, NOT JUST THE CANADIAN TELECOMS!

  • I'm a computer tech and believe me, we're paying 100X too much for internet. At this point in technology history, producing a totally unlimited internet for everybody on earth would cost about 5$ per person per month.

They are paying more money to put limiting devices on telecomunications so that they can charge you even more for it, but initially, it would cost them a ridiculous price if they didn't meter anything in the first place

Cable TV, Satelite, long distance calls, cellphone bills alike

  • It's costing them more money to pay for lawyers to proposition the CRTC, they don't spend a dime on infrastructure.

  • Canadians are in the top third? We are in the top 3!

  • @MrVKCA

Ya the bandwitdh limits are hurting the netflix customers badly.

  • Parties on all sides? Right..

  • "We are getting killed" is the truth vs. the rest of the world for both internet pricing and telecom pricing. Not a big surprise, the same parties involved in both. PRICES NEED TO BE GETTING LESS NOT MORE. Rogers, I am done with your cable service... you've priced me out of the market!

  • I could not help but laugh when the Rogers representative spoke. You must be fucking kidding if you need compensation if you already markup your prices by 10,000%.

  • He reminds me of Phil from Better off Ted and Dr Horrible.

    Awesome dude.

  • Watching this video costed me $50 in overage charges.
