Hey, I think I figured out why spreading your hand helps. I think it's because doing so flexes certain muscles in your arm and shoulder and helps keep the balance on the muscle you were referring to. Haha, sorry I'm a nerd (Bio Major) :D

Thanks man, I was able to learn this in just a couple minutes! Though I'm trying a couple of different ways to get into the position rather than pushing off. But thanks for getting me started.
