im so embarrassed that these so called navajos think this is not a song....shame on u for not knowing your history. this sing is old, very old, i came across this recording a few yrs ago on itunes no less...out of respect for the culture and the sacredness of the song this should not be on here.
this is a old style winter ceremonial song, songs like these are not sung anymor. this recording ws made in the 40's or 50's...maybe earlier. today things are different and songs are different.
I firmly believe the land is for us to live and protect. Name one thing any of the tribal nations did that out cast the way "America" is today.
I see our nation returning to the proper owner. It is just a matter of time. Who owns the land? God. I see the Indian Nation rising in power, not as the Europeans, but through wisdom and patience.
I am a European woman. I have great respect for all nations that pursue what is right.
fuck i just asked why is it sacred. no one shit a brick now. wouldnt you want to spread knowledge about your beliefs so others can acknowledge you guys and your religion. But NO! you just say "it just is" or some shit and stay in your club. Shit no wonder when colonists came to america we killed all you fuckers.
HAVE YOU NOT HEARD !! ? You have greatly offended, ~ Those, to whom this chant is sacred. To continue to ignore the wishes of the Dine, to tread upon native culture and feelings with such obvious blatent disregard for these people is not only the height of bad manners, but , further, ~ Will re-bound, impact upon your own life in whatsoever ~ YOU hold as dear and sacred. Unversal law : What you give out, you get back. Learn the hard way !
Am glad i stumbled across this video...luv the singing...I just heard the first yei dance is being performed this month. So, wish I could attend. Missing navajoland. To all those in Navajoland...wishing a good winter!
@Christopher9867 In Navajo culture, a lot of things are tied to seasons. This is a winter chant and nobody is supposed to sing it or listen to it during other seasons. Stories about some animals can only be told during the right season. You can't tell stories about the fox except in wintertime. Having something at the wrong time of year is a type of blasphemy. If this is kept, it should be renamed to Navajo winter chant or something so that people know not to click on it.
