Ed and Gwyn Smith of Howatharra Aviation sponsored me to learn to fly in their Storch. The Scholarship included theory and practical to attain an RAAus Pilots Certificate. 1.03 is my first flying lesson and "runway inspection". 2.07 is my first solo. (2nd March 2007) Unfortunately there is no footage of Ed teaching me, as this footage is mostly early training with Stewart Maddigan CFI but both were my instructors and their combined input invaluable. This movie is long overdue but I anted to make it in homage to my instructors.
With thanks.

The FlySynthesis Storch is Jabiru powered and by far the nicest plane I've ever flown. (Though I'm not biased at all...lol) The Texan (a bit bigger - low wing - Rotax powered version) has the same great flight characteristics and upon flying one I couldn't help thinking "Storch on steroids" but I still preferred the plane I learnt to fly in. I guess everyone has a special place for their first love...

  • Nice video! i'm wanting to start my flying with those guys actually, obviously Ed and Stewart are great instructors? How many hours did you do there?

    Thanks!

  • @premiers0607 Thanks for watching. Yes they are good instructors. I'm not sure what the go is with training at Serpentine at the moment though. I was a member at the time. From memory I went solo after about 17 hours...I think. It was a few years ago. It's funny how life has a habit of bringing you back to earth. I shall have to get back in to flying :)
