  • Thats right, fuel and timing rack

  • I'm working for Wartsila at the moment (nothing with engines though) but I'm very interested in these kind of engines.

Do you have more of these videos? :)

  • Hi,

I was for the first time on board as apprentice. I don´t have any others, sorry. This summer I will go to sea again on another vessel, with another Warstila engine so then I can shoot a video again.

    Thank you for your comment.

    Best regards,

    Jorg

  • Zijn dat soms brandstofpompen met begin en eindregeling?

  • i visited wärtsilä´s factory today at Vaasa, Finland ;);)

  • What is that alarm for? Not enough oil pressure yet?

  • MAN and Wartsila copys a lot from the other the injection is build at MAN by their own Wartsila uses Injection from supliers

  • @TheChiefEngineer, but then again you might be correct considering the fact that the more powerful Wärtsilä engines were never produced or installed to a ship (the single prototype 12V64 that was built for a power plant produced 23 MW, being slightly powerful than the biggest MAN I mentioned in the previous post). 8L64 is just 17.2 MW and I'm not sure if it has never been produced either. 16V46, which is commonly used, is just 16 MW.

On the other hand have those MANs ever been actually built?

  • @TheChiefEngineer, which one? According to their website the most powerful 4-stroke medium-speed engines are just a bit over 20 MW (18V 48/60B) while the 18-cylinder Wärtsilä 64 would've been almost 35 MW. Too bad it was never built.

  • @Nervotest It's the only split pump I've ever come across so far. It's a brilliant idea.

  • @tupsumato MAN produce a more powerful 4-stroke.

  • How'd you be if that beast threw a rod. You wouldn't be having kids that's for sure.

  • @bufaya, yeah. I don't think anyone produces a bigger medium-speed engine than the Wärtsilä 64. Someone should order the proposed 18-cylinder version just to get the most powerful 4-stroke engine in the world ;)
