there was no East or West conference, it was the Campbells and Wales conferences, the Leafs won the Norris division and were playing the winner of the Smythe division and the winner would win the Campbell's conference to play in the finals vs the winner of the Wales conference, which was the Montreal Canadiens, that would have been a great final.

Further to that, a Montreal Toronto series would not have gained any TV fans or advertising money from any of the USA. But a LA Montreal series..... I'm just sayin'

as much as hockey is a sport and people love it, you can't escape that fact its a god damn business. a mean one at that. imagine screwing over a team because of where they happen to be geographically? the league had there heart set on a gretzky final. cant suck any more money out of canadian hockey fans so they need to sell it in california.

Holy crybabies......get over it. The sabres didn`t cry half as much over the Star`s goal as Laff fans continue to do. Laff would have showed up too tired to win against Mtl anyway after playing to seven. Habs smoked everyone in the playoffs except Quebec and won 11 OT`s....Fraser saved you from a major embarrassment. BTW...Fraser is a Leaf fan since he was a kid. Boo fuckin hoo.....
