  • That's not a runway you want to overshoot!

  • I remember as a lad my father was the manager of the Southend Airport Club . I recall him saying that two of the AT blokes had this idea of an aircraft to replace the existing Bristol Freighter as a car carrier across the Channel. Over a few drinks at the bar one of them drew on the back of a fag packet the idea to modify the DC4 chopping off its nose and building a cockpit on top and extending the fuselage forward with cargo doors. I think it was Mike Keegan and Freddie Laker. It worked !

  • No more car ferry flights for this plane.

  • Flew down the Iskut to the Stkine to Wrangell

  • I made many a trip between Wrangell and Bronson Creek. On clear days most of the pilots would go over the top direct to Bronson. On weather days they would follow the Stikine to the Iskut, then to Bronson.

  • Does anybody know what routes were used to get to Bronson Creek strip from say Wrangell? Did they follow the Iskut river from a Northernly route perhaps? Just curious...

  • I have seen the full comments list now. I would have realised from them the Bristol Freighter connection before asking had I have read all the comments. I also look forward to your freighter videos. I want to hear a Bristol 14 cylinder to compare with the Wright and P&W engines cause there's a difference in all the 18 cylinder radials, most people probably don't notice or even care, but I have a thing with these beautifull sounds :)
