Lebanon County 9/5/09 at noon: Originally built by Bill Schwarz in 1969 as a snack stand that sat along Route 72 near the entrance to Spring Hill Acres, Eagle Scout Travis Wise organized refurbishing of the Lebanon County landmark for use as a snack stand along the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail at the Cornwall Trail-head—Route 419. Travis thanked his fellow scouts in Fredericksburg Troop 447; Mom, Gail and Dad, Rick; Bill Schwatz and his cousin Bill Sammer; and local people who made donations or otherwise assisted. Rail Trail president John Wengert said it was a long time coming. Theyre looking for a real root beer barrel to serve the frosty treat to hikers and bikers along the Trail.
Don't sell yourself short, Travis. It takes leadership to coordinate a project and motivate people to help. In the process, you honored and respected the original designer and builder(s). The whole community appreciates your efforts.

What a wonderful project to tackle. I love to see iconic local landmarks restored. That barrel is a true piece of Americana. Good job!

I wondered what happened to the barrel. It had been sitting at a house near the trail parking lot. I noticed recently while walking on the trail that it was gone.
