Lyric below to song little Grey Hawk (19min)
This session was after dancing by the Yateley Morris Men at the Prince of Wales in Rectory Road, Farnborough, Hampshire......The quickest way to clear a pub is to have a morris side settle to a music session "apres morris"...
You have to have a strong voice to cut through the chatter (or be a young lady) and a strong constitution to put up with the barracking........but the old songs and traditions will be lost if nobody gets up and has a go!
YMM welcome recruits...dancers or musicians...........we are a friendly bunch.and the dancing will keep you fit.
See the web site www.yateleymorrismen.org.uk for contact details
and the summer programme .
From October-April we practise at Yateley Manor school 8-10pm every tuesday
Lyric to Little Grey Hawk:-
Once I had a grey hawk, a little grey hawk
A sweet pretty bird of my own
But she took a flight and flew away quite
And there's nobody knows where she's gone me brave boys
And there's nobody knows where she's gone.
So it's over the green hills I rambled away
And across the green fields I did stray
I whistled and whooped and played on my flute
But no sweet pretty bird could I find me brave boys
But no sweet pretty bird could I find
So it's through the dark forest I rambled away
And along the dark paths I did stray
And there I did spy my sweet pretty bird
She was close by the side of a man me brave boys
She was close by the side of a man.
Now blessed is he who has a good wife
Much better is he who has none
But cursed is he that courteth another's
When he has a good wife of his own me brave boys
When he has a good wife of his own
I've got the strong constitution and the voice, which is just as well since I am no longer such a young lady! You are so lucky to still have this and in a local hostelry. Keep it up, Yateley Morris Men!

I loved this! It s the kind of music one would hear in many a kitchen in Cape Breton, and the folks would be up dancing, too. More like this, please! Keep alive the wonderful traditions of live folk music and the joy of playing those old tunes together.
