Edwin showing how to fill the infrared detector with liquid nitrogen at ALS beamline 5.4.1. He first transfers some LN2 to a smaller hand dewar, then uses a funnel to fill the detector inside the Thermo-Electron Continuum IR microscope.
@MrBomati For these MCT detectors, they usually take about 1/2 a liter to fill -- part of this is just cooling the inside of the detector's dewar, and then the rest actually fills it with LN2 once its cold. The detector will remain cold for over 12 hours.
