A visual exploration of the visual imagery of "The Hanged Man Tarot Card" and symbolism surrounding this iconography.
Background Description: I had recently obtained Sheldon Kopp's "The Hanged Man: Psychotherapy and the Forces of Darkness" as I have over the past year been interested in ideas of transformation, depth psychology, archetypal symbolism and midlife. The "hanged man" tarot imagery had been on my mind and the book found its way into my hands. In creating the originals for this video, I had read the Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hanged_Man_(tarot_card) and was intrigued by the notion that that the "Hanged Man" image expresses in one aspect, the relationship between man, the Divine and the Universe: "one who can understand that the story of their higher nature is embedded in this symbolism may receive intimations concerning a great awakening possible, and will know that after the sacred mystery of death there is a glorious mystery of resurrection." I had recently also completed a series of other pieces on metamorphosis, Blake's Sunflower, Butterflies Chrysalis stage and was interested in ideas of transformation.
