This is a very rough acapella recording of a song I wrote as a tribute to the Christchurch Quake in 2011. I plan to record it properly with the help of a few musicians very soon but I thought i would upload this raw version in the meantime so that you could get a sneak peak of what is coming. Would love to hear your thoughts. The pictures of the quake are by permission of Asher Trafford.
Help is on the way
by Becky Siame
We are kiwis, strong and true
We'll work together, we will get through
And though the earth has roared
And our tears have poured
Let our love be the light as we face the long dark night
Chorus:
We say hey, Hey!
Help is on the way
And if it falls, Falls!
We'll build it up so that it will stay
When you call, Call!
We will find a way
Together we're standing tall
'cause our help is on the way.
With our spirit, We'll overcome
These times of heartache and damage done
Joining hand in hand
For a cause so grand
Rebuilding shattered lives
Till once again this city thrives
Chorus:
God of nations at thy feet
In the bonds of love me meet
Hear our voices we entreat
God defend our free land
We say hey, Hey! (E Ihowa Atua, "God of nations, at thy feet")
Help is on the way
And if it falls, Falls! (O nga iwi matou ra "In the bonds of love we meet")
We'll build it up so that it will stay
When you call, Call! (Ata whakarongona "Hear our voices we entreat")
We will find a way
Together we're standing tall (Me aroha noa "God defend our free land")
'cause our help is on the way.
Stranger, stranger take a stand (Kia hua ko te pa "Guard Pacific's triple star)
Neighbour, neighbour lend a hand
Friends and family, it loves command (Kia tau to atawhai "From the shafts of strife and war")
cause help is on the way
Make her praises heard afar,
God defend New Zealand
Chorus:
beautiful voice, touching words
