STEALING KLIMT is the story of the recent struggle by Maria Altmann, a beautiful and elegant 90-year-old, to recover five Gustav Klimt original paintings stolen from her family by the Nazis in 1938. The paintings, including the famous portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer, had been hanging in the Austrian National Gallery. This David and Goliath story chronicles Maria's early life in glittering fin-de-siecle Vienna, her dramatic escape from Nazi terror, and her courageous fight to recover the five Klimts against all odds. Maria's fight eventually takes her to the U. S. Supreme Court, and pits her not just against Austria, but against the Bush Administration. The film chronicles the years of legal battles and determination of Maria to regain her familys treasures.

These paintings were willed to a museum by her aunt she had NO RIGHT to them - perhaps had she wanted them to go to the Jewish national gallery or such I would feel differntly but had the Nazis never risen to power they would be in a MUSEUM where the original owner INTENDED them to be... she is NO different than those who originally stole them .

Wonderful to see this lovely woman finally get back what was stolen from her family 60 years earlier. Congratulations and God Bless.
