This car was available with a V6 (225 c.i.) or a V8 (300c.i.) That V6 had 155 horses, the V8, 210. So it was clear you could have a nice, compact car (it's classification at the time) and upscale interiors and V8 power. Other compacts offered that, but they weren't Buicks!

  • That's a very nice '66. The green almost looks like a platinum mist-type green. Check out my '67 if you get a chance.

  • @6point1man I checked it out! Car looks great, and the burnout was impressive!! Thanks!

  • Jack, The Special was always the "entry" model for Buick. In the late 50's, Buick changed the name of it's full sized model line up, and the Special dissapeared, returning in '62 on it's mid sized offering. Special Deluxe and Skylark are the steps up from this trim level. The 225 was the grandad of the modern 3800 engine that GM's fullsized vehicles were offered with for many years. There was also a 340 available making 265 HP. Bucik sold 1357 V-6 and 2036 V-8 Special convertibles in 1966. Nice!

  • @jferg7159 Hey, Joe! The name "Special" was certainly fortunate for Buick...giving the impression of something "special"..not base, or stripped! Very smart advertising and product placement! I had one of those 3800 V6's in my Pontiac, and was very pleased with the engine...couldn't wear it out! Thanks for the information! :) Jack

  • When GM re-sized their intermediates in 64 they really came out with some great styles. Between the Tempest, F85 and Special I think the Special looks the most dignified. Those fender skirts give the impression of a lower profile and they do look give it a sassy look.

  • @cheddyrod Hey, Chester! I'd agree with that..and these cars had their own individual personalities...there was a lot of choice back in those days at about similar price points! Buick always seemed to add a bit more to their cars! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @HoschtonBoy Hey, Charlie! Yes indeed...that would be something to witness....these trunks set new standards for roominess in compact cars! I remember the very large salesman who sold our family a 61 Falcon said that he could fit in the trunk...and indeed he did! As they say, anything for a sale! :D Thanks! :D Jack

  • @gene978 Hey, Gene! Yes indeed...this is green almost without being green! Very muted, it goes well with the car! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Those old compacts used to carry around a Fiat 500 in the trunk didn't they. They were big enough back then.

  • I like that shade of green Jack. I was not and still am not a fan of the ever to popular "PINE GREEN"
