Tanglife: In the firmware 113 Apple has added a GPS feature that will pin-point your location using Google maps.

  • apple sdk license forbids live gps tracking with directions. hence, why google maps can not tell the driver the next turn or if he missed a turn or if he made a wrong turn.

and so far there seems to be no developer who is willing to hack the iphone 3g.

  • i wish they would put LIVE turn-by-turn directions. then iphone users wouldnt have to purchase another GPS driving unit.

  • so, are you goin into the jungle?, dude instead of tinkering w/ your toy, why don't don't you just ask the friendly locals and interact like the old days habit. cheers :)

  • i love the sound of that. we all need to open up more.

  • This can be a GPS (because the iPhone first got GPS with the new iPhone 2.0 and firmware update 2.0 this a 1G iphone with 1.13) but the Cellular/Wifi location tool, that can tell your current position with a accuracy of about 100m, if your current network is registered

  • correct

  • im gona visit you at your home. i magnafied this video, and i found your home

  • Does this work on first gen iphone???

  • can I use the iPhone maps option without a WIFI connection?

  • It would be nice.

I tried it with my WIndows Mobile device, which has no such restriction on the developer.

But I found the dedicated car navigators to be far superior in application.

I still want a full GPS on the iphone though, at least if the developer was allowed to store the maps locally in the iphone memory so it wouldn't depend on the internet, which is slow and spotty.

  • Oh, is this the GPS support that iphone can offer? Just use it as a phone.
