Eugene Ysaye composed his 6 violin sonatas in 1924 in the honour of J. S. Bach and after his wife's death, dedicated to his contemporaries. The first was dedicated to a Hungarian violinist, Joseph Szigeti and now performed by a major Hungarian talent, Kristof Barati. Paris, 2002.

  • A young recording artist's interpretation, fantastic sul tasto and plucking, dynamics and tempo make this complex piece fathomable. The harmony is most remarkably understood by Mr. Barati. Note: the music is played detache (sul tasto legato) and equal pressure at frog and tip. And broad strokes in many parts make for a lovely performance.

    All the best!

  • A great interpretation, if you want to hear a legend you need to listen to Oscar Shumsky perform this, and shit the rest of the Sonatas also..... his fugato will knock your socks off...guarantee

  • Ysaye is a wonderful composer. It's a shame that he's not well known outside of musical circles.

This performance is wonderful as well. I cannot thank you enough for uploading this on YouTube.

  • Barati the soul of violin!

Musical like Kavakos and technical like kogan!
