@robbiehatfield100 Thats why they try to get sexy people smoking in movies, not ugly people & they smoke in a sensual way & you'll find that esp in the 50s it was mainly around sex scenes, perfect N L P.Claudia Shffer didnt smoke cigerettes or drink alchohol but had no idea cigars were as bad as cigerettes & smoked them constantly & was proud of it.

Also we get emotionally addicted to something that we associate with feeling good. e.g. smoking at the pub, when people start there they make that association between smoking and drinking, socialising etc its a link.

@zzsharka True, but that's because we live in a society where people feel that they need permission to indulge. Once they indulge, they find out that they enjoy it and continue. That's the only explanation that makes sense. Otherwise, they wouldn't continue.

It's the companies that market a product to become fashionable, you say people know the risks, with cigarettes people didn't know shit in the the 50s and almost everybody smoked but now they know more in the western world & there are less smokers. As for places like China there is almost no anti smoking campaine & still cigarette advertising so still behind in that regard. HOw much anti cigar smoking do you see compared with pro cigar smoking ? Its not rocket science.
