Tks it helps a little. I kinda already had the chord progression figured out but it's the "fill ins" that are giving me a problem lol tks

Awsome job! My jaw went all the way to the floor! I'm trying to learn this one although not as complicated as your version but I would like it to be but as a beginner I'm having a tough time. Plus I can't find any worthy tabs anywhere. Oh well back to the drawing board! Keep up the great work!

Hi Bluesman - Try Stefan Grossman's Introduction to Country Blues Guitar think he has a version. Mine's contrived - becoming so over the years. It uses the ragtime progression E, A, D, G and is, of course in the key of G. Finding different places to play that chord progression is basically what my version is - and a few years of messing around! Also, I do have the capo on the second fret for my voice - so, really is in the key of A. Hope that is a start for you - best wishes,
Lil' Ian

Hey brother great tune.
Thanks for posting it and I love that your puppy runs through the scene. LOL.

Thanks man, the puppy usually runs away when I start playing - probably what he was doing in the video!

Love the song and love your version! Any idea who wrote it? I tracked it as far back as Papa Charlie Jackson in the early '20s. Is it possible nobody wrote it? Somebody just jumped up one day and made it up and it took off from there?

Thanks much browningpgc. I first heard Salty Dog played by (Roy?) Clarke a Bluegrass player many years ago now. There seem to be various versions in the Bluegrass genre with a certain set of lyrics. Also, Mississippi John Hurt has this attributed to him with different lyrics from the bluegrass version. My lyrics owe a lot to Blind Boy Fuller - don't know how I did it that way - just did.
Thanks, Lil' Ian
