I don't think your fist comment was negative, but I was not sure, so I wanted to clarify what I thought of BJJ.. BJJ is awesome and I practice it with a group in the town I work in as well as train in Inosanto lineage JKD.

And upon further reading I learned of something called Kosen judo which was a substyle created by Jigoro Kano for teaching the high school students in japan. Because of the high percentage for injury during throws, he felt it was safer to teach NeWaza to them. The prevailing opinion in the article I read was that what Maeda taught Carlos Gracie, was NeWaza/Kosen form of Judo.

@Samboussr Helio knew a lot of newaza because he was (at the time) a black belt in Judo & also registered in Kodokan. Kimura was just too good for Helio that's all... Kimura was the best grappler in the world... Helio had no chance! Gracies took the original Judo before 1925 and simply stayed with it just like Kosen Judokas... yes, the art (BJJ) has evolved since 1925 and a few new sweeps, guard have been invented, but in general ... 99% is still Judo.

Although judo is a grappling art, I've seen judo guys in MMA throw some really good right handers in a cage. I recall in Extreme Fighting, Bart Vale got punched out by a Japanese judo fighter. Russian judoka Maxim Tarasov in Absolute Fighting can throw a punch as well.

@f9hunter Look up Judo in MMA you are way off on this one ! the most current show of Judo in MMA Jim Hettes dominates over Nam Phan with sold Judo throws in UFC 141 and Stun Gun Kim also a good Show of Judo in 141 and a win over Sean pierson so Judo does work in MMA and Judo provides a sold base for MMA and is untapped when it comes to how many throws can be used in MMA this hand full of throws people call out on You tube is BS so far people have just seen the tip of Judo In MMA .

@f9hunter Your trainer is probably a newer judoka with little ne-waza experience because my Judo trainer practices 50 up and 50 down thus we see the true beauty of Judo and our judokas always compete and win in BJJ competitions (see my videos).

In terms of Sambo, there is an Australian Sambo Federation, look it up.

@pcjudosambo again i am not hating on judo, i have trained in around 2 years in judo and only say 7months in bjj, i am just calling as i see it. Would love to get my hands on Sambo but dont think here in australia they offer Sambo as they do in other arts.

@pcjudosambo of course they USE judo throws in the clinch what it is more easy to negate and there is a risk of getting your back taken, in which judo does not really care because they would rather give up their back then get pinned. All i am saying that Judo imo is not the best option when it comes to grappling when it comes to mma, in a self defence situation sure it would probably work if the guy is wearing a trench coat or a jacket.

@f9hunter Wow man, read the IJF web site or visit a few dozen high level Judo competitions.

Go train at an MMA school for a few months and ask them if they "use" no Gi Judo takedowns.

@pcjudosambo say what ever you want man, your name is judosambo, your obviously biased, i practice judo so i know what the sport offers and what it lacks. and it is no secret that judo lacks newaza and focuses too much on throws. How many guys do you see shoot in for double legs??? hundreds of mma fighters use judo throws? like whom? how often? im talking without a gi. if judo was that effective people would be learning judo not wrestling.
