This is beautiful! I wish appliances and electronic things were made like that. Everything these days looks functional, but boring.

I'll like to see the innards of that. Probably somewhat dispointing as most steampunk is just a facade, but still. What would be completely AWESOME would be a CD player that actually ran on steampunk technology, like vacuum tubes and relays, not just a gimmick case.
This is still complete awesomesauce in it's own right though.

epic steampunk. who says you can't have both style and substance nowadays?

Dear Prof. Zuntaras,
I surmise the input of mechanical energy via the handcrank is stored within a large clockwork, which turns the spectral disc and levers the bellows, which in turn compress air across some intricate vibrational device (similar to vocal cords?) at the base of the megaphone, thus creating sound. I am curious as to how the information stored on the spectral disc gets transferred/translated to the vibrational devise I have previously surmised.
Pure speculation of course.

Form and function. Probably more on the form side, depending on your stand point. Excellent.

I want to mod out my big screen tv I need a site with suggestions, I have the artistic skill but I need to know what materials might work best.I am working on modding my fishtank like a Jules Verne copper with rivets contraption, its not technically Victorian, but I like breaking rules.

There is a site called "Brass Goggles" that is kind of a meeting ground for Steampunk folk, especially the inventors. Tons of great ideas and examples there. Additionaly, if you post a thread about what you want to do, those folks will have tons of suggestions to help you out.

Lachlant1984m don't think of "Steampunk" as just a mechanical system. It can and does incorporate electrical circuitry and motors, but the prime mover is steam. When "Steam was King", they had electrical motors, but not powerful enough to run industry. Steampunk can encompass all kinds of tech from just around the beginning of the steam era to the beginning of the electrical era, but the results can be anything from 3D viewing systems to FTL star travel, provided it's all done with STEAM :P

In this case sir, I beg you indulgence in the fact that I have substituted compressed air, via the bellows, for steam in my device above. Though heat may be absent, I belive that we can come to an agreement that the basic movement and power principle would be mechanically the same for compressed air and steam.
Do grab a zepplin and drop by for tea sometime so we can discuss this distinciton further as it intruiges me.
Sincerely, Dr. Emilo Zuntaras
LOL :)
