A 4th instar nymph of the migratory locust (Locusta migratoria, family Acrididae) was under attack by a few persistent ants. The locust seemed groggy due to the injuries (from a mower?) on the scorching tarmac. Mid-July 2008 in Japan.

手負いのトノサマバッタ(四齢?)幼虫にアリ(種名不詳)がしつこく攻撃を加え触角や脚を齧ろうとしていました。翅原基が少し伸びてきています。頭部と腹部に損傷が認められるので草刈り機の犠牲になったのでは?という指摘と推理を頂きました。
