This is a couple clips taken from Todd's recent appearance on Marc Maron's WTF podcast (http://www.wtfpod.com/). I decided to post this separately because it's something that I wish someone told me when I was 13 years old.

People with empathy care, I guess...

And you're fooling yourself if you think the negative meanings of 'fag' and 'gay' aren't homophobic. Don't you think it's a weird coincidence that every word we have for gay people is also an insult? And isn't it weird that the things we call "gay" usually happen to have something to do with negative stereotypes of gay people?

If you paid attention, there's nothing in the clip about being offended, but I guess that's something you're SENSITIVE about.

I'm glad people are being so civil about this, but can I ask you something? Would you everyday interactions and communications be so hindered by not using negative gay slurs? Are they so vital to your communication? People's immediate response is to say people are just too sensitive, it's a PC world gone wrong and it's censoring real speech. I think people think that because it's so much easier than actually putting yourself in someone's shoes. If you can use gay slurs then surely racial ones 2?

Hey, I'm glad we could come to something of an understanding on this. I don't ask that everyone agrees with me on things. Just that we all respect each other enough to realize that other people have differing opinions and that we should take those into account.

Wait a second, are we having civil discourse over youtube comments? What world is this?

Not a problem. I am way too "black and white" on this issue. I apologize for that. There are a lot of grey areas on this issue.

And that's perfectly fair. I don't mean to keep us going around the circle or anything, but I understand that part of the issue lied within myself. I hated that part of myself for a long time, and let other peoples' words affect me more than I should have. But I also know that I'm not alone in that.

It's a tough issue, to be sure, and I know being PC about everything is probably too much to ask. I react emotionally to things like this, for which I apologize.

No I completely understand where you're coming from. Please disregard my comment before the last one. It was uncalled for.

We differ on opinions. Plain and simple.

The tricky part about this conversation is the inevitable circle we'll walk in while talking about the severity of words. I can't tell you that you're overreacting because those words really have an impact on you. On the flip side, you can't expect people who aren't offended by that word to feel the same way you do about it.

That's fair. I apologize for being so confrontational, and I'll admit I didn't notice the timestamp on your comment. Had I noticed it, I wouldn't have bothered. I apologize.

I only ask that you have an open mind about this issue. When I was younger, it killed me to hear people describe things as gay. It made me feel awful. It kept me in the closet for way too long. I know it's anecdotal evidence, but I don't think I'm alone in this.

No I just have no interest debating something that we're never going to agree on. It's been a year since I posted that comment. I'm sick of discussing it. That's why I deleted the original comment.

Your remark literally brought nothing to the table. Congratulations. You managed to say literally nothing despite using three words.
