@dsruddell You're right! The big-block Chevys never got the 700-R4... They got only the Turbo-400 until the 4l80-E was introduced. The 6.2L Gm/Isuzu diesels got the 700-R4, however. Uncle had one stock behind his 6.2 in his '85 G-series 1-ton window-van (Beauville). He loved the mileage he got... And, how well it towed his cabin-cruiser boat or triple-axle camper-trailer!
@MegaGuitarboss Yeah, GM thought they'd mainly sell to the Grand-Nationals Racing crowd & they didn't want to spend the extra money for a third casting variation of the 700-R4 for something that would see limited production. And the 200-4R wasn't that strong, either. A friend got an '87 & with a few minor bolt-ons managed to run 11.80s...and needed the trans rebuilt TWICE within a few months time! Thank-god for Art Carr friction pieces (2nd rebuild).
If you want to make that 307 olds run good, get you a cam speced for a low comp. 455 and watch that 307 run hard.Yes,they are interchangable.I ran one in my 260 olds with 5A heads and made around 250 hp,so you would have a little more than that,275-290 hp.
@Mellizano My Chevy 307 is 325-350hp. Its 10.5:1 Compression with just bolting on a set of 305 HO heads 58cc chambers and 1.94 valves. Its got some other nice goodies, it pulls my full size pick up around just fine and it'll smoke the tires just fine.

@kpj200 Or the TBI 2.5L OHV 4-cyl, if it was built before the '87M/Y!

@KJBPSkipper Mines never spark knocked a single time, even when I had it in my S10.

The 307 was a great stock motor in my 1981 Delta 88, but if I was doing a swap I'd probably do a TBI SBC!
