ALASKA: Arctic Village, at the outskirts of Brooks Range, a community of Atapaskan Native Americans, of the Gwich'in nation, live in cyclical harmony with nature. The hunt for caribou is their only means of livelihood. Furthermore, their entire culture has revolved around this animal for over 3000 years, and is now in danger due to the exploitation of local crude oil that the US government carries out and wants to expand.

La caccia al caribou e' l'unico sostentamento, tutta la loro cultura gira intorno a questo animale ormai da piu di 3000 anni, oggi in pericolo per via dello sfruttamento petrolifero che il governo USA effettua e vuole espandere. La presenza di macchine per l'estrazione devia i percorsi millenari dei branchi di caribou mettendo a repentaglio la vita e la cultura dei villaggi Gwich'in e tutto l'eco sistema artico.

I'm confused, as the pipeline is not "right next to the village"? Also I am a fan of primitive diets/eating & by the looks of it, most of these people are not well exercised & are eating nasty modern processed foods (you can tell by their physical beings). What a shame, are they trying to seek compensation/handouts instead of living their traditional lives?Other than that on a positive note, I did enjoy parts of the video (the hunting scenes/boy trapping, music and the beautiful scenery)...

Hi, I was part of the Christmas Airlift in 1991 and 1992. Really enjoyed the short time I had there. I lived in AK for 10 years and enjoyed everyday.

I am very happy to see this film and the longer version posted on your My Space page. I represented the Gwich'in (through CATG), Faith Gemmill, and REDOIL before the US Supreme Court as friends of the court in the 2006 case in which states and environmental organizations sued EPA for failing to regulate greenhouse gases. We won but so far it hasn't made a damn bit of difference. I truly appreciate your work.
