Americans have long been passionate about burgers, especially grilled burgers. It's the smoky, juicy, seasoned just right burger that turns us on. The toppings may be "so much fluff" to burger purists but sophisticated burger-addicts thoroughly enjoy burgers with an ethnic tweak. The Tuscan Burger Bruschetta, page 50 of the "Build a Better Burger Cookbook" and the 2008 winner, Sweet-Hot Thai Burger, are a couple examples of kicked-up burgers with ethnic flair.
This recipe is inspired by burgers served at the Blacksmith Pub and Burger Bar in the little town of Whitianga, located in the Coramandle Islands of New Zealand. The Blacksmith Pub is a local hangout with rustic charm, 9 ounce hamburger patties on sesame seed buns, rollicking karaoke nights, comedians on tour, and live grunge. The place rocks and this burger with 4 selections of add-ons will rock you.
