Can you use something other than copper? Or is copper necessary for the motor to work?

Just made this with my kids. Worked great after a little tweaking to get the alignment right and the wires mostly straight.

Hello! First, I admire your videos. Secondly, my motor does not work: (I'm doing everything like you show but something is wrong. Can you help me? Treats it as a challenge to the attempts of electromagnetism.

They can be very hard to make, was the battery new? was the coil well ballenced and not wonkey. did u scrape off the wire coating of the ends of the wire compleatly. was the magnet you used on top of the battery strong?
