With recent reports of crime on Marquette's campus, it's only natural for students to feel like they need to hide in their apartments and residence halls. Marquette Wire reporter Carolyn Portner shares why students should take advantage of the city in light of such crimes as she points out some of Milwaukee's gems that can only be discovered by exploring off campus. From the Historic Third Ward to Brady Street, Milwaukee offers so much more than campus muggings and crime.
i went to MU in the 80's. The neighborhood i lived in wasnt very safe. I use to walk home at night alone til a girl was murdered. It's sad that the students have to worry for their safety. I remember the bums on the street asking for money when I went there. I was a poor college student so I wasn't lying when i tld them I didn't have anything. The campus itsself was safe (where classes were) when i went there--it was walking to dorms and our apartments you had to worry about.
