A music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes.Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. Although the origins of music videos date back much further, they came into prominence in the 1980s, when MTV based their format around the medium. Prior to the 80s, these works were described by various terms including "illustrated song", "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film", "promotional clip" or "film clip".

Finding success in the music industry can be difficult. It's not impossible however. With a determined mind, creative sound and guided persistence, your music could be produced by a major record company.

1 First, gather a fan base. Send samples of your music to friends, family, peers, coworkers, and others around you. Network your music online through social-networking sties such as Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. Upload videos of your music on YouTube. That way, record-company executives can see that you already have a large a following. With a significantly large fan base, record companies may come to you.

2 Create a demo disk. This is a sample of your music that represents your overall ability as a musician. Make sure the CD has excellent sound quality. Send demo to as many recording companies as possible.

3 Hire an agent to represent you. Agents work together with promoters and record companies to get your music heard and distributed. An agent will set up interviews with record companies. There are online directories that can guide you to your nearest available agent.

4 Set up interviews with producers. Call local producing companies and ask to meet with a producer. The specific company will then guide you through the process required to set up an interview. For example, some may ask you to send your mix tape prior to the meeting. If you hire an agent, he will do this step for you.

5 Make friends in the business. Get to know people who are associated with the music industry. Your goal is to contact a music producer and set up a possible interview.

6 Sign a contract. Read all of the terms and conditions of the producing contract carefully. It is best if you have a lawyer present to help you with anything you don't understand
