James Kalm slips into Williamsburg under cover of night to bring viewers a look and an extended interview with one of Chicagos preeminent contemporary artists, Tony Fitzpatrick. Obsessively worked and fabricated from the cast off refuge of down home culture, Fitzpatrick weaves a narrative of tragic heroics recording a poetic portrait of one of the last of the great Native American leaders Crazy Horse. With simple scraps and elementary colors these collage paintings transcend their small size to express a sense of monumental mourning. Includes an extended interview with Tony Fitzpatrick.

  • I would be interested to know what No. 9 is to this artist. He even had it tattooed on his forearm if you look closely and it is in his pieces and looks like the word Nog but is No. 9.

  • Yeah bobwilsonrary,

I noticed that when I was editing this piece. I'll have to ask Tony through facebook.

  • Keep up the art show crashing. Its awesome!

  • I see what you mean, but sold-out art is not necessarily bad art...anyway, it is still a good def of art...

  • @claureic ... but this work is NOT "The stuff that normal people throw out" it's esthetical too much. This is the stuff that normal people hang on their walls, the stuff who is made for selling, selling out the art!

  • art that doesnt look like art is art but once you frame a piece its art trying be art.

  • I'll go with sincerely. Cause at least it's better than the last video!

  • "The stuff that normal people throw out"...That's a good definition of art...
