I finally return to the mission.
This is the version of Sean Flynn found on the original version of what was to become Combat Rock, namely Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg (hence RPFFB). RPFFB is essentially the Combat Rock songs produced and mixed by Mick Jones plus a few songs that were cut from end product.

This particular song, Sean Flynn, is here on RPFFB several minutes (191 seconds to be exact) longer than the Combat Rock version, and, personally, I find very, very good, as the music is utterly beautiful, and I could listen to it forever and ever.
Though not too beautiful of course, as it is also very serious. Appears to be another Clash song at least somewhat inspired by Apocalypse Now (Charlie Don't Surf would appear to be the other song obviously influenced by that amazing movie released in 1979), and the sparse lyrics talk about photographer and actor Sean Flynn who dissapeared and was most likely killed by the Khmer Rouge in the djungles of Cambodia 1970 during the Vietnamese war.

But, I digress. Let us just all instead enjoy the wonderful music.

RIP Joe

  • so this is live? must be a board mix and very quiet audience

  • It's not live, it's the early non-finished version of Sean Flynn from when Mick Jones was still producing the album.

  • dude i need to ask why isnt the master take on youtube at all its not on there i really think thats the only song not on youtube along with the croked beat by simo would u do one plz dude and check if there all there?

  • The Crooked Beat is you Youtube, in fact, I put it up myself.

You're right though, it seems the Combat Rock master of Sean Flynn is missing. I'll see what I can do.

  • YES this is my favorite song from Combat Rock! It's so passionate and mellow, I could listen to it all night.

Finally someone posted it (even though it's another version), thank you very very much :)!

  • Clash was much bigger than punk, this song proves it like nothing else.

  • Somthing about this song scares me...I think of dien bien phu. If no one knows what that is look it up.

  • Many nights have come an gone, listening too the melodic blues, of this true spitual song Very very peacful...........I want this played at my funeral, and with bag pipes .

  • genius pure genius, one of the best bands EVER !

  • combat rock is such a great album and this is one of the best tracks on it.

  • @foraggio : Dear Mr Foraggio, Sean Flynn was the son of the Famos Errol Flynn.

Sean began as an actor and then chose Photojournalism and went to Vietnam.

He`s mentioned in Michael Herrs Book, "Dispatches", where the main Character is the Famous war Photographer "Tim Page", This Guy is the represented in Francis Coppola`s "Apocalypse Now" by Dennis Hopper.

  • I still love punk, but now that I'm into my old fart "national public radio" stage I'm really glad they left us w/ the more complex & interesting songs as well.
