New Orleans, January 2009.
[Best if played in high-quality mode.]
This short film is a tribute to this magnificent city and the heart of its people. There are no explicit images of the destruction still so prevalent here. It offers, rather, a nuanced portrait from a post-Katrina "vacationer's" point of view, and thus is really about NOLA's character, its plenitude of awe-inspiring paradoxes, and its undying creative spirit. In short, this little video is a small window into the great love story of La Nouvelle-Orléans— where Jeanne d'Arc, the "maid of Orleans," still joins with Papa Jack Laine, Fats Domino, Satchmo, and so many others, as they continue to play for us. As Bluesiana Mama Marva Wright sings, "change is gonna come—yes it will."
Love New Orleans (& loved Marva too). Have to get back there. I haven't been since before Katrina hit in '05.
