A couple years ago I went to buy a home
I called up on an ad on the telephone
The Realtor told me now is the right time to buy
She said "Owning a home is American as apple pie"

The place, I saw, too good to be true
On the west side of town it even had a view
Something should have told me that I was a fool
I didn't know about the Subprime Blues

The broker said to make an offer on the spot
She said "Do you have money", I said "I do not"
She said "That don't matter, I know who you should call
Countrywide's number's right here on here on the wall"

I rushed to their office right on time
The mortgage broker told me he was, on my side
He said "I solve your problem buddy don't you wait"
I git you a loan with an adjustable rate

How can these payments be so low
The balance rises every month on what I owe
Needed some furniture, a new TV
No problem borrow more with Home Equity

I can't make my payments anymore
They sold my damn loan into a CDO
There's no one to talk to on the other side
This whole dang thing is hurtin my pride

I gotta get away, away, away, away from here,
I'm going downtown to drown myself in beer

I wake up in the morning all I feel is fear
The foreclosure date is getting near
I borrowed more money than I could pay
The Subprime Blues have come my way

The loan, I took, it was cursed
The Real Estate bubble, now it has burst
I'm in, the school, of hard knocks
I'm gonna end up in a cardboard box

man, I hope they outlaw adjustable rate mortgages and loans. that's just wrong.

I agree. It is just so unfair to trick people like me into signing a loan when I have no idea that the payments are gonna go up by 300%! I am a hardworking man, not a banker. There should be some sort of law preventing loans from being made like mine. How do you explain to your child that you can't buy them presents because you ain't got no money left. Or even worse that you get thrown out of your home. Americans don't deserve this.

Billybob is funny but tells an important story at the same time. How did he convince Luanne (I assume that it actually his daugter) to do this?

Luanne is my little girl. All I had to do was pay her $10 per take - I told her she just bein greedy but I need her to make this song good.
