It is tragic that in a land that worships its heroines the birth of a girl child is often the cause of sorrow. Every munni is badnaam even before she is born. And for what? A girl is just as likely to make her parents proud as a boy. Indeed she is more likely to take care of them in their old age. Yet she is seen as a burden and treated as such. The bigger tragedy is that we who know better do nothing about it. Oh, you might say what can I, a mere individual, do? For starters, you can at least help change a few people's perceptions about girls. It could end up making life better for all the girls to come.
