@theGodofthebible I'm not allowed to post links here within this reply, but I will gladly direct you to a reliable source for this info. It's from The Department of Phytochemistry & Medicinal Plants Research Institute, at the Shahid Beheshti University in Iran. Simply do a Google search for "exjordanary seeds", click on the top link which will take you to my website. On my main Storefront, search the Keywords : "Glaucum Poppy" in the search browser at the upper right. A link is in the listing

@exjordanary In literature I see no reference that they have anything near similar alkoloid structure

@exjordanary Earwigs get inside a flowering poppy just as soon as it blossoms. They eat away at the pistils and thereby reducing the amount of pollen to near zero. If you find a way to control them, then you can collect pollen. Label the variety of poppy on to a small piece of paper and use a twist tie to secure it on the flower stalk. When we used to hybridize, we came out with a beautiful double flowered white with bright red on the tip of each flower petal. We called this variety: Firecrown.

@Nguli34689 - Yeah, I have found earwigs INSIDE the pods before. Gross.
-
@exjordanary Yes, I have. I used to grow them 20 years ago. Papaver glaucum is rather a short plant with orange flowers and elongathed pods. Papaver atlanticum, the Atlas Poppy is similar in structure. We produced a strain which provided us with over 30 pods per plant through crossing. The problem with collecting pollen is with earwigs. They can be found inside the flower munching away. There won't be any pollen left when they get through. Use a small paintbrush to get the pollen on stamen.

@Nguli34689 @Nguli34689 Have you heard of Papaver Glaucum or the "Tulip Poppy"?? I just discovered those this year. They have similar alkaloid structures as Somniferum. See my video of them.
P. somniferum can be crossed with Papaver orientalis. Pollen from that can be put on an unfertilized stamen of an Oriental Poppy. I have seen one hybrid which looked like a hollyhock with several flowers on a single stem and another had this strange looking crown. The leaves of the hybrids will be greyish like that of P. somniferum but they cannot bear seed. They are like mules but can be propagated by root division. They live up to five - seven years.

@Nguli34689 - See the video I just posted of a new Hybrid I created this year. It's called : "Pink Circus" Peony PAPAVER SOMNIFERUM POPPY - It's a cross between White Cloud, and Afghan Pink Sunset. I will also post it as a video response to this video.

Hey man, LOVE the videos !
How would Papaver somniferum do in my local climate, here in Pennsylvania ?
Are there particular strains that are more resistant to temperature fluctuations, or that would do better in a Northern climate..?

@jhnmndrl - Sure, they'll grow in ANY U.S. State. I'd try planting a couple weeks after your last frost. They like temps around 50 to 65 degrees (f) to germinate. Try one of my "mix packs" from my website. Just do a Google search for "exjordanary seeds"
Thanks,,
