He's giving them his patented mound staredown at the start.
But anyway why do reporters ask questions that they already know the answer to? What's he gonna do, celebrate? They answered their own question...disappointment, frustration, sadness, shock...no really. I hope so. Boston can suck it.
In my mind, Papelbon is one of the only redsox players who deserved the postseason. I just don't think he is a closer. I think he is a great pitcher in a closers role. He should start. Rather get great pitching for multiple innings every fifth day than one great inning every time the sox are in a save situation. You could see it in the Yankees game where he pitched multiple innings, his arm got stronger and he was sharper with his stuff with each new inning.
They honestly just wanted to see him cry, they wanted to hear him say ,"I lost the game for us." But it wasn't Papelbon, it was the whole Red Sox' level of play in September. The Rays deserve to go in to the postseason.

Such a menacing stare from a little boy who didn't blow a save until the games started to matter.
On the plus side just think of all the extra time he'll have for bowfishing.
