The Colorado couple who pled guilty to staging the balloon boy hoax in October is expected to be sentenced today. The pair faces potential jail time and up to $46,000 in fines. Do you think this is an appropriate punishment? Do you believe this punishment will discourage similar publicity stunts in the future? An investigator in the case is pushing for limits on how the couple can profit from the event through things like book deals or TV appearances, but critics say that is a violation of their First Amendment rights. Should the pair be prevented from making more money off the incident?

Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority; the political function of rights is precisely to protect minorities from oppression by majorities (and the smallest minority on earth is the individual).
