My first concert EVER, Marty Robbins, just like this, just him and his guitar. I was 7! Loved him then and I love him now, and I'm old enough to get SS these days.
I liked Elvis but never have I heard a voice like Marty Robbins. He is the the best, I still enjoy his music. Elvis has to stand in line behind Marty. So sad he left us so early in his life. His music will live on forever.
I just heard Justin Trevino's version of this song and was impressed. I hadn't heard the song in years, but thought, "Wow! Justin's version is as good as Marty's original." Well, now that I've listened to Marty's again, Justin's is still awfully good, but Marty's still the king. I love country music, listen to it every day, but I'm afraid, from lack of hearin' 'em, we're forgettin' just how good the "old guys" were. Sad...
Thanks Chris for letting me know that Marty wrote this song. He just could never sing a song without it being a big hit. I love all of his songs - whether novelty, gospel or just plain ole great country. He was talented in so many ways. - Paula
What a smooth warm voice. Marty can sing the ballads and put so much feeling into them. I've always loved this song. Whomever wrote this song knows just how a true country ballad's story should be. Marty has one of the greatest voices ever. He is a truly gifted artist and we miss him so much. He looks so handsome and so classy here. Thank you for posting this treasure. - Paula
