@PYates77 A normal is the direction that is perpendicular to a surface, that means that it points straight away from a surface. In computer graphics it's used to tell an engine in what direction a surface is facing, so that it doesn't have to render the backside of a surface, since that will never be seen.
A normal map is a texture image containing one normal per pixel that you can put on top of a surface. This normal map is used by the engine to give the surface more detailed lighting.

I think that the shininess has changed. Or my object came out weird. I made the colorm map, and the blank normal. It was in the engine as really shiny. When I changed the transparency of the colormap, but that made the object transparent. The normal map's transparency determined shininess on my model.
