Today I'm going to take my toothbrush and not brush my teeth with it . . . that's right, we're going to do spattering today with a toothbrush. Everyone has an old toothbrush laying around, so go grab one because you're going to want to do this, it's a lot of fun!

I have a toothbrush in my hand and I have activated some color over here with a brush and water, a beautiful red by the way. You just take the toothbrush and it is damp by the way, and pick up that color. I always keep a tissue in my hand because it will drip down and put a big splotch on the painting. Then you take your thumb and flick the bristles like that. Isn't that fun? There is the same kind of spatter with a toothbrush that we had with an atomizer. It's just another way to get texture into your painting--simple, easy, cheap, and get all the texture that you want. If you don't want to spatter everywhere, you can make a mask out of old newspaper and lay it around on the painting where you don't want the spatter in the same way you would if using the spray bottle or atomizer. It's a nice way to add texture.
