It is true how our raagas reflect the mood of the day and season. When one listens to raga bhairavi rendered by a master like Nikhilji, the soft hues of early dawn begin to unfold before the mind's eyes and then assume brilliance by stages as the musical notes reach their crescendo. The entire performance is marked by beauty, growth, and the promise of a good day ahead. The tender tabla beats are also apt to the mood. It's all pure joy. Many thanks, cenkjeekhan, for the post,

Thanks for posting this Bhairavi. I love all renditions of Nikhilda's. They are unique in every sense and cannot be copied by any one. His music touches your heart and you feel he is playing for God. I miss him enormously but his music remain with me forever.
Ustad Ali Akbar Khan Shaheb's music will also remain with me forever.

Panditji's innovation for the instrument was the 8 main strings that allowed him to tune to both Ghandar Pancham and Kharaj Pancham. That is an extra main string pitched to 'Ga' (third note). I'm told he later abandoned the extra string idea.
Truly the greatest player of his generation.

Unparalleled. So much truth in his notes. He and Ali Akbar Khan are in a class of their own. Thanks.
