It's customary to visit one's local Buddhist shrine on New Year's Day (literally right after midnight) to pay respects to the Buddhist gods and hope for a prosperous new year. Well, right now, this just happens to be my local shrine!

There was quite an atmosphere around it, and the gojuunotou (five-storey pagoda) looked particularly beautiful with the moon behind it. It was odd to be there at a time when there were virtually no tourists present, too!
