  • @Mendez106

He might stop before he's 14 and never do any martial arts again?

  • Awesome Kama Kata. . .way to go Lewis!

  • Isn't a belt ment to resemble what level a student is to an instructor? Do you think a child is physically strong enough to perform to an adults standard of course not, but what about their attitude towards their training isn't that what budo is? I feel if a child has a black belt around their waist I'd expect them to be a role model to anyone, and this 'performance' looks like an XMA demo and I've never seen an XMA demo perform anywhere near a karate kata there two completely different things,

  • @anythingnew ...true i dont like that neighter. but its like this, as long as u have the money and giving it u can become a black belt like in less then a year, thats how it is with most martial arts school its more of a business then training.. thats why u see a 6 years old with a a black belt like come one, if the parents wasn't, paying all those money he would still b like a green belt or something, martial arts its not how it use to be

  • @tamichalak to add to my privious post : If the child shows EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY IN SKILL and technique--no teacher (USUALLY) would object to the rank of JR black belt. (black with a white stripe down the middle)

The child would then RETEST for a full fledged BB when he/she comes of age. Thats the way I run it at my school.

  • As a Sensei of traditional Okinawan Isshinryu (go-dan)

its difficult when judging whether or not to award a child a rank.

In most traditional schools...NO ONE receives a black belt before 16 or 18 in some others.

A black belt signifies a mastery of the BASICS only; they are NOT a master.

But it also reflects the students GROWTH in technique and their GROWTH mentally and maturity. Someone who starts at 5yrs old ---gets a black belt at 10--has NOT matured enough to warrent such an award.

  • @milkwad1 I think it's not good to give a child a black belt and that's not because he's or her techniques are not good but karate is also a sport where it is important to empathize in karate.

  • @JPEWD

An 18 year old that's at the top of his class in whatever school for 10 years still don't deserve his black belt.

  • @anythingnew you right, this is not a black belt worth!!

  • I don't like it when people just hand out black belt.
