Chad Black is a pro fly caster and is happy to show you some of his "tips and techniques" for the spey fly rod. In this segment he explains and shows:

- the rod and reel he chose to use today
- sink tips of different weights
- skeena river spey steelhead flies
- action of the fly in the water
- via demonstration the basic "double spey" cast
- pic of nice steelhead landed today (See video clip #0048 on my website)
- pic of fly box
- ALWAYS wear your "wading belt" for safety. As a bonus it creates a "pouch" to store your fishing tackle.

Stay tuned for more of Chad's "tips and techniques" coming soon.

Chad is also the operations manager for a major fishing lodge based out of Terrace BC Canada. He is also a fishing guide.

  • how does he attach the leadcore line to his flyline?

  • I have taken a spill or two. Patagonia waders are supposed to "release" much of the water up to the belt. Not sure it truly works, but it was one of the selling points. Otherwise, still great Waders. I am on pair #2.

  • Actually it is all a myth. Jump in a swimming pool with your waders and try to make them hold you down. The old Rubber waders were bad, but not the new ones.

  • I've subscribed to keep up with the videos :)

  • A knife will not help you as you can't cut off the shoes! You need a floating vest!

  • because if you fall in your waders will fill up with wader faster. if your wading a large river u should carry a knife with u just in case u run into a situation when ur waders fill up with water and ur drowning u can cut free of ur waders. the wading belts also help with back fatique.

  • Hey, good video.

Why always wear the wading belt?
