The house isn't scary. The movie script was well written and used actual acting to project the terror to the audience. The same formula for terror was used by Sir Alfred Hitchcock.

Ed Gein only killed two people. "The Plainfield Butcher". He used to dig up graves. He was told to do it by his dead mother. Obviously as mad as a cow.
