Pres. Barack Obama addresses the nation's nursing shortage by favoring improved opportunities for American nurses over importing foreign nurses. www.numbersusa.com
Even if there were enough instructors to meet the demand for current waiting list student... where the heck are they going to work when they graduate. No one wants to hire new grads... yet floors work short staffed, because no one can hire a new grad because, like every other program out there that teaches to the "TEST", the graduates are unprepared for working in real life!
The GOVERNMENT tells us there is a "nursing shortage" based on unrealistic, idealistic nurse/patient ratios. Hospitals and other facilities aim for staffing levels NO WHERE NEAR what the government assumes is adequate. So, the government's assertion that there is a "nursing shortage" DOES NOT MEAN THERE IS AN OVER-ABUNDANCE OF HIRING going on - ESPECIALLY AMONG NEW GRADS!!! Hospitals don't want to spend $ training new grads, so they demand experienced nurses only.
We ARE training nurses in the United States. I'm graduating in December and the job outlook for the new grads= bleak and competitive. There are plenty of jobs, but hospitals want experience. They don't want new graduates. There's the problem. There is a shortage of EXPERIENCED nurses. I really feel hospitals should just give us a chance. We can at least help close the gap.
people you have the internet at your finger tips there are many scholarships available research them! ask your school ask your community! there are funds available to everyone!

I know of no place where there is a "glut" of nurses. Importing of nurses is one of the only solutions there is to offset the coming shortage.

someone should tell this jive turkey there is no shortage only glut. Importing nurses makes it harder for US born nurses to get jobs.
