Hey everybody, my buddy RafalTICKET brought over his Gateway FPD2185W which is suffering from the blue power button issue. Once the monitor is powered on, the blue on button stays lit, nothing at all happens with the screen nor does anything respond.
After searching the internet, we've come to the conclusion the issue is with the 8 + 3 capacitors on the circuit boards.

This video is the process of disassembling the monitor and identifying the issue.

Part 2 of this video will be the assembly and the end result.

Some sites to reference this known Gateway issue.

  • you had it backwards, the first board is the mainboard (usually nothing is wrong with that board if the psu has issues, the other is the power supply. Sorry I got this exact monitor for free fixed it and just bought another one from ebay for 43 dollars so now I'm using two 21" HD monitors and my cintiq (good investment, learning how to fix broken stuff) lol

  • No part 2. Makes this video worthless.

  • i just broke my estupid monitor!!!!

  • @NerdCasting, I'm thinking low power side of power supply is cutting out and not powering the back-lit LEDs.

  • @borderraven same problem here monitor runs for a little while then turns off (blackscreen) but when i popped it open the caps looked ok???

  • I have one of these monitors that a buddy gave to me. I plugged it in and it fried within seconds. Now it wont even attempt to power on. I took it apart and there are 7 or 8 bad caps that I can see. Also the mainboard looks burnt underneath the caps that are shown at 9:20. Do you think it would be worth trying to fix it?

  • @anoteortwo

    25V 470uF

  • My monitor turns on momentarily, I see a blue light, and data from the bios, but when I release the button, it goes black. It is not latching on. I got it open, and all capacitors look good. Switch continuity is good. It has a power supply board, a video controller board, and the switch board connected in series.

    Any ideas?

  • what kind of capacitors are needed to be replaced?
