This guy along with singers like Vic Damone and Matt Monroe were in a class of their own. You dont hear singers of this quality now.

I have been a Sinatra fan since birth. I even listened to his incredible singing voice in the womb. I've been a Steve L. fan since the age of five and I have to say that I prefer Steve's interpretation of this song over Frank's.
Sorry Frank, please forgive me!

I do not wish to start an argument with you. It is not worth it, however as a true Steve and Eydie fan I will inform you keithypoo31 that Steve will insist that between the two of them Eydie is the more talented. I have been a devoted fan of their music since the age of five and in the almost 41 years I've been following the events of their life Steve has continually announced that she is truly the more talented one. He has informed his public that she completes his life and his music.

Great voice, too bad he hooked up with, edie. He would have been much, much bigger without her. Just imagine if tom jones came on stage with a woman all the time, how loud can you say GAYYYYY
-
Underrated vocalist. Such a clear even voice, no muss or fuss. And togather with Eydie gold!

This song was nominated Oscar best song for 1965 from the movie "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" but lost to another great song of the time - The shadow of your smile from the movie "The sandpiper"
-
@liebtiff Frank will forgive ya, he didn't care much for the song anyway.

Can you imagine if Steve had become a Cantor, even the goyim would go to shul!
By the way, Koussevitski sang at my aunts wedding in Poland before The War.

There's a little bit of the cantor in Steve.
I uploaded a vudeo based on his song
WHERE CAN I GO? which he sings in
english and yiddish. In a part of the
song it sounds as if a cantor is singing
in a synagogue. He could have been
a yiddish singer on the side...He sang
MY YIDDISHE MAME at Carnegie Hall
many years ago, and people are still
talking about it.

I've got almost every Steve Lawrence record he ever made...that's realy something for someone who's a doo wop collector....Steve sang with Moishe Koussevitsky's choir in his youth...please don't ask, just google it.

Very interesting. I know that Steve is the
song of a cantor, and that he sang at the
synagogue. Are there any recods of him singing under his name " Sydney
Liebowitz"?

Dear Albie: Thank you for this post. What beautiful music; I loved the photos. I'm glad you included Eydie. I have no idea how to post but Sunrise, Sunset with photos would be wonderful regards, ellenb

Thanks for your comments. I was lucky to find that 60s photo of Eydie and Steve, Eydie with
that mink stole. I have in my plans a medley
of steve and eydie singing sunrise sunset, and
also matchmaker matchmaker which Eydie recorded in the 1960s, both songs from the
musical Fiddler on The Roof.
